Upside - Very sturdy and stable... I added lead shot and sand to pillar. Separate and hidden wire channel. Attractive.
Downside - Threads are tapped into a C-shaped channel, rather than a closed cyclinder. One bolt did not engage threads, until I removed a washer. Seal insert for the bottom of the pillar (to prevent sand/shot leakage) is cardboard. Served its purpose (i.e., no leaks), but could fit better and should maybe be a rubber gasket material.
Overall - Pleased with the form and function of final product. Good value.

I like these stands. They look good and hold big speakers. I got them to hold my large surround speakers and they do a good job at that. I had the same problem as another reviewer with the stripped screw holes. Made assembly difficult. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.

Excellent for heavy, tall surround speakers. The heavy cast iron base lowers the center of gravity and makes the speaker/stand system more stable. This is the second pair of these stands that I have ordered for my HT system. I am very happy with them.

I had bought some $50 stands from a local retailer which came out to be a horrible purchase. The stand looked cheap and didn't do the job. I started on-line shopping and ran into this website. I was amazed at the selection they had. I hoped that the purchased I made would be to my satisfaction, being that I couldn't view them first before purchasing. My selection came to be perfect. They delivered on time. I think the shipping was free. The item is durable and expensive looking. If I need any more stands I would recommend this site.

These are good looking, sturdy speaker stands. I did not fill the riser tubes with sand or shot(an option mentioned in the instructions), because they seem quite substantial enough to do the job for which they are designed. Raising my medium size speakers off the floor made a noticable difference in audio quality of my surround speakers. On a less positive note, there was a problem during assembly with one of the base screw-holes having oversized or stripped threads. The packaged screws would not hold. A larger screw from my garage solved the problem, and the assembled stands look great. The manufacturer was e-mailed regarding this minor flaw, and did respond.
